PostScriptum commits €30M to quantum, invests in SemiQon and appoints Antti Vasara to lead quantum strategy

PostScriptum today announced an increased commitment to quantum technology: an investment in SemiQon, a quantum company with real, scalable, cryogenic-ready quantum hardware for the million-qubit era, and the appointment of Antti Vasara as VP, Quantum. As part of this commitment, PostScriptum commits to invest up to €30M into powering quantum computers for the million-qubit era, covering control electronics, cooling and other enabling technologies.

Quantum computing represents one of the most consequential and transformative technologies for the future of computing. The companies building the underlying hardware and the AI systems designed to operate in the quantum era need to be developed in parallel. Europe has both the scientific foundation and the industrial capability to lead in this space, and the investment in SemiQon, together with future investment plans and Vasara’s appointment, reflect that conviction.

Antti Vasara (D.Sc. in technical physics) has deep experience at the intersection of technology, research, and commercialization. In addition to experience from executive and board roles at companies like McKinsey, Nokia and F-Secure, he has been central to Finland’s emergence as a key player in quantum technology as the former President and CEO of VTT, The Technical Research Centre of Finland. To drive the quantum ecosystem, he currently serves on the high-level advisory board of European Commission’s Quantum Strategy, Chairman of University of Helsinki and Special Envoy for Technology of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland. In his new role at PostScriptum, Vasara will lead the company’s quantum strategy and support the growth of quantum-focused companies within the PostScriptum ecosystem.

“Quantum is not a separate domain, it is the next compute paradigm in service of AI,” says Peter Sarlin, Founder of PostScriptum. “Building in this space requires long-term conviction, technical depth, and the right people. Antti brings exactly that, and SemiQon is the kind of company that has proven a shift from research and the lab to production and commercial contracts, with now a focus on scaling.”

“PostScriptum has a track record of backing visionary people and technically ambitious initiatives, and supporting them over the long term,” said Antti Vasara. “PostScriptum is the kind of partner that matters most in deep tech, where the timelines are long and success requires vision and long-term conviction. What makes Peter extraordinary is that he is not just an investor, he is a builder. That is a rare combination, and exactly what ambitious deep tech companies need.”

SemiQon, a spin-off from VTT, is powering quantum processors for the million-qubit era through real, scalable, cryogenic-ready electronics. SemiQon provides cryo-optimized CMOS chips using existing semiconductor design and manufacturing tools, processes and materials. Cryogenic CMOS electronics exhibit ultra-low power consumption and heat load, extending to 1,000 × lower than traditional electronics. SemiQon’s cryogenic CMOS is a proprietary integrated solution, delivered as a controller, readout, and as other electronics.

“Building critical enabling technologies for the quantum era requires partners who think in decades, not quarters. PostScriptum brings that perspective, alongside deep experience in taking technically ambitious companies from research to scale. That is the kind of backing that matters at this stage,” says Himadri Majumdar, Co-Founder and CEO of SemiQon.

Where most quantum hardware today relies on non-standard materials and requires extreme operating conditions, SemiQon’s approach draws on existing semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure, the same foundation that has driven classical computing for decades. The company has shipped its first commercial customer orders and is preparing for the launch of a next-generation chip.
